2009 Elections

The fourth BKYP elections took place between the 26th and the 30th of January 2009. 57 candidates stood for 30 seats, 82 polling venues gave young people the opportunity to vote and eleven thousand five hundred and eighty four young people voted. There was a very exciting and tense atmosphere at the Hilton Hotel on the count day where 60 young people ran the count & announced the winning candidates.
The next elections will be in march 2011...
To stand in the elections you must be between 11 and 21 years old and live in the Bradford District. You will need to be enthusiastic and committed to making Bradford a better place for young people.
Before you register as a candidate you will need to read the candidate information pack. The packs are also available in schools, libraries, youth centres and the information shop for young people in Bradford, so ask your teacher or youth worker for one or you can download a copy of the booklet by clicking on the picture below.
Once you have read the booklet fill in the registration form and send it back to us. We will then contact you to see which of the training sessions you want to come to.
Anyone wanting to stand in the elections must attend a training session to give them more information on being an MYP and for help in writing their manifesto.
To get a better idea of what it is like to be an MYP why not attend one of the current parliament's weekly meetings in your constituency. Visit the constituency pages to see when and where these meetings take place.
If you have any questions you can give us a call on 01274 431849 or send an email through the contact us page. Keep an eye on bkyp.com for more details later.
