Make the Right Decision
As you may know, one of the Bradford west's priority was about sexual health and relationships. just to update you on that. After this priority came about, we discussed it as a constituency and decided that a song/MC record as we feel that it is the best meathod of getting our message across.
after we have consulted ova 100 young people in a series of roadshows in a number of locations all over bradford west, including Allerton and Toller wards. we did this because we felt that it was right for the young people of bradford west to have a say in the lyrics of the track.
The record was recorded by the Bradford west Members of Parliament, with the help of Pipeline Productions and funding by the Terrence Higgins Trust. We would like to thank both of them for their help in the project.

By Johnathan Crouch
The session tonight was quite an unusual one as we weren’t working on our priorities as such. As the Bradford and Keighley youth parliament we also have other responsibilities other than our priorities, for example we also are sometimes asked, as part of an interview process, to interview people who want to take up a position into the youth servicce, for example as a senior youth worker in the Bradford integrated youth support service (Bradford youth service).
As such tonight, we were asked to interview a youth worker. We were interviewing for a senior position in Bradford west. The interview went really well. We asked a number of questions on a number of topics such as the candidates experience’s and knowledge as well as the interviewee’s attitude. This process was very beneficial to both the interviewer as well as the interviewee. What I, as well as my other colleagues got out of the interview was how to actually interview and what kind of answer we are expecting, but more than ever, gaining the confidence to actually be in the situation to interview for such an important job.
We also had our co-opting session. Co-opting is a process where we gain new Members of the youth parliament to fill places that have being left due to people leaving the BKYP. This occurred for a number of reasons, but mainly as they had other commitments, we would like to wish them luck with their future.
But i would like to say congratulations to the newly co-opted MYP's.
The Weekly Meetings
As for all BKYP weekly meetings, they are open to the public to attend, within the ages of 11-21. Bradford West's weekly meetings are held at Tollar youth cafe, also knows as the "Cop Shop". They are held every monday at 5.30pm-8.30pm. for more infomation please contact Kate Armitstead by calling 01274 431849.
The Roadshows and consultations
The past few months have being a process of planning or plan of action for the next year and a half. None of this could have being possible if not for the young people of Bradford west, who gave us our priorities through a series of roadshows and event consultations. From four priorities, we got our final two. These priorities are:-
- Sexual health – Sexually transmitted infections, Safe Sex and teenage pregnancy
- Combating youth homelessness
Over 6 weeks, 7 roadshows and 2 events, over 475 people voted for the priority that they wanted to change in Bradford West.
“The roadshows were a great way to ask the public what they thought about Bradford and what they wanted to change. We asked over 8 times more people their opinions than the last Bradford West” said Johnny Crouch
We went to several youth centres, including, Clayton, Canterbury, Frizinghall Girls Group, Bradford Deaf Group (Tollar Youth Cafe) and these are to name but a few. During these roadshows we explained who we are and what we do, and then we asked them what they wanted to change.
I would like to thank everybody who attended the roadshows and events.
